Terrafame launches brand renewal to strengthen its position as a European producer of critical raw materials
The brand renewal reflects the company’s evolution into a broader multi-metal company whose products play a key role not only in the clean transition, but also in strengthening security of supply and resilient supply chains.
The world needs more metals. The electrification of societies, the clean transition and the replacement of fossil fuels with low-emission alternatives are all driving demand for raw materials. At the same time, increasing attention is being paid to how and where metals are produced, and how reliably critical raw materials can also be supplied in an uncertain geopolitical environment.
In line with its strategy, Terrafame is strengthening its role as a multi-metal company whose impact extends beyond battery chemicals to the production of critical raw materials that are essential for the clean transition, resilient supply chains and European security of supply.
As part of its brand renewal, Terrafame has crystallised its way of working, strengths and role in a changing operating environment into three words:
Responsible. Resilient. Ready.
These three themes describe how Terrafame operates and how the company responds to changes in its operating environment and to evolving customer expectations.
Building on this foundation, the company has also defined its value proposition: Responsible Metals for Resilient Supply Chains. It reflects what Terrafame offers to its customers and society: responsibly produced metals and other critical raw materials for industries that are vital to electrification, energy security, defence and technological progress, while helping to strengthen the resilience and strategic autonomy of European supply chains.
Alongside responsible production, the company’s competitive advantage is rooted in its location in Europe. As the availability of critical raw materials has become a geopolitical issue, reliable and traceable supply chains located close to customers are more important than ever.
The renewal is guided by the company’s strategy and a vision developed together with its employees. According to this vision, Terrafame’s ambition is to be a leading European producer of critical raw materials by 2030.
The brand renewal will be implemented in phases during the remainder of 2026 and throughout 2027.
“A brand is not just a logo or a visual identity. It is the sum of our strategy, operations, people and how we are perceived. Our objective is to build a brand that supports our business goals, strengthens our competitiveness and makes Terrafame better known as a European producer of critical raw materials,” says Antti Koulumies, CEO of Terrafame.
Among the critical and strategic raw materials identified by the European Union, Terrafame produces battery-grade nickel, cobalt and copper. The company also produces zinc and ammonium sulphate and is the only producer of uranium within the European Union. In addition, Terrafame is currently exploring opportunities to recover the rare earth element scandium from the side stream of its uranium recovery process.
Terrafame already produces approximately 70 per cent of all nickel mined in Europe. The company’s unique and energy-efficient integrated production model, based on bioleaching technology, covers the entire value chain from mining to metal intermediates, uranium and battery chemicals. The carbon footprint of the nickel sulphate produced by Terrafame is significantly lower than the industry average.
Terrafame Ltd is one of Europe’s leading producers of critical raw materials, supplying battery chemicals and critical metals from its integrated industrial site in Sotkamo, Finland. Through its signature bioleaching technology, the company’s production process consumes around 90% less energy than conventional methods.
Backed by Europe’s largest nickel ore reserves, a mine life of at least 30 years and a diverse multi-metal resource base, Terrafame provides reliable and responsible long-term supply for industries essential to electrification, energy security, defence and advanced technologies. The company operates Europe's largest nickel and cobalt sulphate plant, provides 70% of the nickel originating from the EU and is its only uranium producer.
Terrafame. Responsible. Resilient. Ready.
