Road authority have started plan for Road 8714

The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for North Ostrobothnia, which is the region’s authority on roads, is preparing a road plan for the closing of the section of Road 8714 between Lahnasjärvi and Road 870. The preparation of the plan is linked to the building of Terrafame’s production area.

A substantial stretch of Road 8714 runs through Terrafame’s mining concession, and the company has proposed closing it as a public road for safety reasons. The new secondary leaching areas planned by the company would be built in such a way that the required dumper truck traffic would travel across Road 8714, and ultimately the road would be located inside the secondary leaching area. Terrafame’s own traffic inside the mining concession would also be directed to a new route.

Rights of way to private properties are planned to be determined at a later date in a cadastral survey of private roads, organised by the road authorities.
