Work does not discriminate at Terrafame

Terrafame has signed up for the ‘Work does not discriminate’ campaign, aimed at promoting equality and fairness in working life. The company has also invited its partner companies, Clean and Safe, Delete Finland and Heapson to join the campaign.

Around 85 percent of Terrafame’s workers live in the municipalities of Kainuu, but shift systems enable many others to come from further afield. The age distribution of employees is balanced, with an average age of around 40 years. Most employees are currently men, but the company wants to see more applications from women for a range of tasks.

"The mining industry may sound masculine, but many jobs in Terrafame are similar to those of the process industry in general. We are currently planning chemical production for the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries, which will bring us closer to the chemical industry. In addition, we can offer work in electrical and automation engineering and mechanical maintenance for both young and more experienced professionals," says Joni Lukkaroinen, CEO.

The objective of Terrafame’s equality and fairness plan is to promote equal opportunities for all workers in terms of professional development, training and promotion. Every employee also has the right to work without discrimination, harassment or other inappropriate treatment.
