Terrafame selects Sweco as detail engineering designer of its battery chemicals plant 25.10.2018

The multi-metal company Terrafame has signed a contract with Sweco for the detail engineering design of a battery chemicals plant. Terrafame's own project organisation is leading the project as a whole and is in charge of selecting technology suppliers and carrying out equipment procurement. In accordance with the agreement, Sweco will take care of planning the connections between the new battery chemicals plant and the existing metals production plant, as well as the detail engineering of the buildings, pipelines, electrification, instrumentation and automation of the new plant complex. Sweco will also support Terrafame with project and construction site services.

Sweco, which was selected as the detail engineering designer of the new plant, is known as a built environment, sustainable development and industry expert. The company has also performed planning on several previous occasions for Terrafame’s existing metals production plant. For the detail engineering, Sweco will establish an office at the Terrafame industrial site in Sotkamo. The project office will work in close collaboration with Terrafame’s project organisation and Sweco’s other project functions.

The detail engineering of the new plant will employ a maximum of around 100 experts simultaneously within Sweco’s organisation. The detail engineering design of the plant for producing electric vehicle battery chemicals has begun in October and plant construction is due to start in the first half of 2019.
